Overtime gross pay
Your inputs
Complete only the fields for your selected method. Use one consistent job or reporting period. Use zero for a known zero amount only when the field permits it. Missing costs and market rates are not added automatically. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
regular pay = regular hours × regular rate; overtime pay = overtime hours × supplied multiplier × regular rate or overtime hours × separate overtime rate; gross pay = regular pay + overtime pay.
Supply the regular and overtime hours and rates for one period. Gross pay only. No eligibility, required overtime rate, tax, deduction, minimum-wage or jurisdiction rules are inferred.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Regular hours already classified (hours): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for regular hours already classified. Unknown is not the same as zero.
- Overtime hours already classified (hours): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for overtime hours already classified. Unknown is not the same as zero.
- Regular hourly pay (selected currency): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for regular hourly pay. Unknown is not the same as zero.
- Overtime rate multiplier (×): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for overtime rate multiplier. Unknown is not the same as zero.
- Separate overtime hourly rate, or zero to use multiplier (selected currency): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for separate overtime hourly rate, or zero to use multiplier. Unknown is not the same as zero.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Regular gross pay is $1,000.00 for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs
- Regular hours already classified: 40.00 hours
- Overtime hours already classified: 8.00 hours
- Regular hourly pay: $25.00
- Overtime rate multiplier: 1.50 ×
- Separate overtime hourly rate, or zero to use multiplier: $0.00
- Regular gross pay
- $1,000.00
- Overtime hourly rate used
- $37.50
- Overtime gross pay
- $300.00
- Total gross pay
- $1,300.00
- Overtime premium above regular-rate equivalent
- $100.00
- A positive separate overtime hourly rate takes precedence over the multiplier.
These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.
