Business Data & Market Comparisons

Connect official BLS cost and earnings data, USDA agricultural market reports and Census business-area references to calculations you can keep in BusCalc Workbooks.

Retrieving data now does not make it a real-time observation. Each source retains its own reporting period, geography, units and release schedule. Missing or suppressed information is not zero.

BLS budget, wage and purchasing-power comparisons

BLS monthly releases can help you compare an entered budget with changes in a matching published series. They are not current supplier quotes, local wage recommendations or a forecast.

Formula: entered base amount × latest series value ÷ base series value. The result is an index-linked comparison, not a recommendation to increase a price or wage. Use the same series for both dates.

USDA livestock, produce and agricultural market reports

Find livestock, fruit, vegetable, grain and related reports. Choose a report and inspect commodity, grade, weight range, package, market, date and price basis before using a number. Reports may be daily, weekly or less frequent; no real-time exchange prices are implied.

Large reports show at most 100 commodity rows. Narrow by commodity and date to find the records you need.

Sale proceeds after costs, transport and fees

Enter a price from a matching report row or your actual offer. This calculator never assumes that a quoted price per hundredweight is a price per head, or that a package is a pound.

Census business and market-area references

County Business Patterns supplies employer-establishment counts, employment and annual payroll by industry. ACS five-year estimates add population and median household income with margins of error. These are historical-area references, not proof of demand or a count of all competitors.

Find official geographic codes. Some reference years or industries may not be available; unavailable values remain explicit. Many sole proprietors are outside the employer-business dataset.

Keep your analysis connected

Successful comparisons can be added to Workbooks as dated calculation records, with the source snapshot retained. Open the original calculator or feasibility tool to evaluate additional assumptions; reference data is not silently inserted into unrelated fields.

Sources and reuse

Source agencies do not endorse BusCalc. USDA and Census feeds require private server keys; a feed that is not configured is labeled unavailable. No account credentials, workbook contents or job figures are sent to these providers; only selected public-series, report or geography queries are requested.
