Your inputs

Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.

How this calculation works

loads = ceil(animals / supplied animals-per-load); transport cost = loads × (round-trip distance × cost/distance + quoted trip fee)

This is an enterprise-budget worksheet using supplied quantities, prices and assumptions. No feeding ration, treatment, stocking rate, fertilizer, pesticide, yield forecast or equipment suitability is prescribed. Capacity must come from the operator and applicable conditions; this tool does not set stocking density, vehicle ratings, transport welfare requirements or permit rules. Distance includes returns and repositioning for every load. Cost rate is per kilometre even when distance is entered in miles.

What information do I need?

Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.

Input definitions and where to find them
  • Animals to transport (head): One haul quote or measured own route cost, loading labor and headcount. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
  • Permitted animals per load supplied by operator (head/load): One haul quote or measured own route cost, loading labor and headcount. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
  • Total round-trip distance for each load (mi): One haul quote or measured own route cost, loading labor and headcount. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
  • Combined transport cost per kilometre (selected currency): One haul quote or measured own route cost, loading labor and headcount. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
  • Other quoted charges per load (selected currency): One haul quote or measured own route cost, loading labor and headcount. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.

Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.

Worked example

Example amounts use US dollars (USD).

Example answer: Whole loads needed is 2 loads for the illustrative inputs below.

Example inputs
  • Animals to transport: 35 head
  • Permitted animals per load supplied by operator: 20 head/load
  • Total round-trip distance for each load: 100.00 mi
  • Combined transport cost per kilometre: $1.00
  • Other quoted charges per load: $50.00
Whole loads needed
2 loads
Total entered transport cost
$421.87
Transport cost per animal
$12.05

These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.

Use the result well

Allocate trip cost across externally permitted load.

Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
