Fleet
Truck driver hours of service screen
Your inputs
Complete only the fields for your selected method. Use one consistent job or reporting period. Use zero for a known zero amount only when the field permits it. Missing costs and market rates are not added automatically. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
Driving ≤ 660 minutes within the first 840 elapsed duty-window minutes after at least 600 uninterrupted rest minutes. After 480 cumulative driving minutes, 30 consecutive non-driving minutes are required before additional driving. Driving also counts against the entered carrier cycle.
One shift within one carrier duty day. Start at the first on-duty activity following your supplied rest. Assumes no cycle days roll off during the plan. No exemption, split sleeper calculation, adverse-driving extension, restart, short-haul treatment or duty-status classification is inferred. Results do not establish compliance. Use your own records for the same scope and period. Example figures are illustrative, not industry benchmarks. Results exclude income taxes and any cost you have not entered. Check the result before pricing work or committing resources.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Carrier schedule: Choose the entry method matching the information you have. Only its active inputs are required.
- On-duty minutes already counted in the applicable cycle (minutes): Use your carrier’s applicable rolling total just before this shift. Include driving and other duty. This screen does not recompute the cycle or roll off earlier days.
- Uninterrupted qualifying off-duty minutes before this shift (minutes): Use the matching measured quantity, time log, schedule or clearly stated estimate. Zero means intentionally none; an unknown amount is not zero.
- Duty segments in order, starting when coming on duty: Enter matching rows from your records; add or remove rows as needed.
- Duty status: Choose the entry method matching the information you have. Only its active inputs are required.
- Segment duration (minutes): Use the matching measured quantity, time log, schedule or clearly stated estimate. Zero means intentionally none; an unknown amount is not zero.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Hours of service screening result is No exceedance found under the entered standard-shift assumptions for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs
- Carrier schedule: 70 on-duty hours in 8 days
- On-duty minutes already counted in the applicable cycle: 1,800 minutes
- Uninterrupted qualifying off-duty minutes before this shift: 600 minutes
- Duty segments in order, starting when coming on duty
- Duty status: On duty, not driving
- Segment duration: 60 minutes
- Duty status: Driving
- Segment duration: 360 minutes
- Duty status: Off duty
- Segment duration: 30 minutes
- Duty status: Driving
- Segment duration: 240 minutes
- Hours of service screening result
- No exceedance found under the entered standard-shift assumptions
- Total entered driving
- 600 minutes
- Elapsed time since coming on duty
- 690 minutes
- Remaining under the 11-hour driving cap
- 60 minutes
- Remaining in the 14-hour window
- 150 minutes
- Remaining entered cycle duty balance
- 1,740 minutes
- Driving remaining before a 30-minute interruption
- 240 minutes
- The remaining limits are separate and can constrain each other. Compare with the official duty log and carrier guidance.
These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.
Use the result well
Inputs come from your own records and stated assumptions; no rates or legal limits are looked up.
Review the entered assumptions and calculator limits before using these results.
