Need Velocity

Compare how an observed service measure or activity count changes across equal periods. See the latest change, acceleration, and how long the measured increases persisted.

Compare an observed trend

Use the same measure, source, coverage and unit throughout. Enter 2 to 120 complete periods of equal length, oldest first. Put one number per line. Use missing for unavailable values and suppressed for withheld values. Enter 0 only if it was observed.

Observation series

Use short codes with letters, numbers, periods, hyphens, colons or underscores. Keep any private identifiers out of these fields.

Compare matched geographic areas (optional)

Compare only the same areas, measure, source and coverage for the latest two periods. Put one area per row as area-code,previous,current. Use missing or suppressed where appropriate. Example: county-1,14,52.

Explore an opportunity window

Choose a target and two constant gains per period. The result shows when each scenario would first reach the target within your chosen horizon.

Scenario assumptions

Read the results

Velocity is the latest comparable change divided by the days in the period. Acceleration is how much that change differs from the preceding comparable change. Persistence counts consecutive observed increases at the end of the series.

Relative growth tiers run from stable (0–10%) to rising (over 10–50%), accelerating (over 50–150%), and breakout (over 150%). Negative changes are declining. A zero starting value has no growth percentage. Activity counts such as requests or discussions are separate from measured service demand.

Opportunity windows reflect your assumptions and carry no confidence estimate. The worksheet runs in your browser.
