How this calculation works

hourly cost = paid person-hours × supplied loaded hourly cost; piece-rate cost = packed units × supplied all-in cost/unit

This is an enterprise-budget worksheet using supplied quantities, prices and assumptions. No feeding ration, treatment, stocking rate, fertilizer, pesticide, yield forecast or equipment suitability is prescribed. Compare the same accepted output and include paid preparation, cleanup and packing time. Piece-rate cost must already include any applicable paid extras supplied by the owner. This tool does not establish lawful pay, overtime, productivity or a recommended compensation policy.

What information do I need?

Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.

Input definitions and where to find them
  • Comparable packed units completed (matching packed units): Crew time sheet, entered rate and accepted harvest weight/count. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
  • All paid harvesting and packing person-hours (person-hours): Crew time sheet, entered rate and accepted harvest weight/count. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
  • Supplied all-in hourly labor cost (selected currency): Crew time sheet, entered rate and accepted harvest weight/count. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
  • Supplied all-in piece-rate cost per packed unit (selected currency): Crew time sheet, entered rate and accepted harvest weight/count. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.

Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.

Worked example

Example amounts use US dollars (USD).

Example answer: Hourly-scenario cost per packed unit is $1.60 for the illustrative inputs below.

Example inputs
  • Comparable packed units completed: 1,000.00 matching packed units
  • All paid harvesting and packing person-hours: 80.00 person-hours
  • Supplied all-in hourly labor cost: $20.00
  • Supplied all-in piece-rate cost per packed unit: $1.80
Hourly-scenario cost per packed unit
$1.60
Piece-scenario cost per packed unit
$1.80
Hourly minus piece-rate total cost
-$200.00

These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.

Use the result well

Identify observed harvest/packing burden.

Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
