Lawn mowing acres per hour
Calculate lawn-mowing acres per hour, square feet per hour and mowing time from measured work or mower width, travel speed and efficiency.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
measured acres/hour = completed acres / elapsed working hours; estimated acres/hour = width(ft) × speed(mph) × efficiency / 8.25
Measures one machine or one observed operation, not the sum of crew person-hours. Estimated efficiency applies once to the full nominal working width; do not also reduce width for the same overlap. Planned time excludes travel, loading, trimming, cleanup and repairs unless already reflected in the recorded time or efficiency. Mowing time is not a whole lawn-care visit estimate. Slopes, obstacles, grass conditions and safe machine operation remain site-specific.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- How do you know productivity?: Use your own matching records, supplier quote or explicitly stated estimate. The prefilled figure is illustrative; zero means an explicitly excluded or zero cost, not an unknown value.
- Area actually completed (acre): Measure completed unique area from a site plan, mapped field or reliable area record. Do not count overlapping passes as extra land. Used with: I know completed area and elapsed work time.
- Elapsed work time for that area (hours): Use elapsed time for the same operation, including the turning, overlap, breaks or interruptions you want reflected in productivity. Do not enter crew person-hours. Used with: I know completed area and elapsed work time.
- Mower cutting width (in): Use the actual cutting/working width. Choose inches for mower decks or feet/meters for equipment; example dimensions are illustrative. Used with: I know working width, speed and efficiency.
- Actual operating travel speed (mph): Use observed safe operating speed, not transport speed or the machine maximum. This calculator does not recommend a speed. Used with: I know working width, speed and efficiency.
- Your field or mowing efficiency (%): Your assumption for turning, overlap and interruptions: 75 means 75%. Estimate from completed area/time if possible. The default is an example, not a recommended benchmark. Used with: I know working width, speed and efficiency.
- Area to plan work for (acre): This area is used only to estimate total work time. Select acres, square feet, square meters or hectares.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Productivity is 2.0000 acres/hour for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs
- How do you know productivity?: I know completed area and elapsed work time
- Area actually completed: 2.00 acre
- Elapsed work time for that area: 1.00 hours
- Area to plan work for: 5.00 acre
- Productivity
- 2.0000 acres/hour
- Area completed per hour
- 87,120.00 ft²/hour
- Work time for planned area
- 2.500 hours
- Minutes per acre
- 30.000 minutes/acre
- Measured mode uses elapsed time directly; no additional efficiency factor is applied.
These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.
Use the result well
Calculate lawn-mowing acres per hour, square feet per hour and mowing time from measured work or mower width, travel speed and efficiency.
Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
