How this calculation works

PV of each purchase operating replacement and resale stream.

Equal horizons. Initial costs occur now; future costs and resale occur at the end of the entered year. Enter every relevant cash flow, including replacements. Prices are nominal cash amounts; discount rate must use the same nominal basis. No taxes, financing, depreciation or reserve contributions are added. Results compare supplied scenarios, not equipment suitability. Option A is gas; option B is electric. Include battery replacements, fuel, charging and upkeep in the relevant year. Do not add a reserve as a second replacement expense.

What information do I need?

Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.

Input definitions and where to find them
  • Option A initial cost (selected currency): Gas mower acquisition cash.
  • Option B initial cost (selected currency): Electric mower acquisition including specifically included battery/charger.
  • Common comparison horizon (years): Use matching records or a clearly identified owner assumption for common comparison horizon, in the displayed unit and the stated row/period scope.
  • Annual discount rate (%): Explicit owner-selected scenario rate matching the period and nominal/real cash-flow basis; not a guaranteed return.
  • Option A resale at horizon (selected currency): Owner-supplied expected sale receipt at the stated end date; scenario assumption, not market appraisal.
  • Option B resale at horizon (selected currency): Owner-supplied expected sale receipt at the stated end date; scenario assumption, not market appraisal.
  • Annual future costs: One row per distinct annual future costs, on the stated row and period basis. Do not enter both components and their total.
    • Year (year): Use matching records or a clearly identified owner assumption for year, in the displayed unit and the stated row/period scope.
    • Option A cost (selected currency): Matching invoice, quote, statement, bookkeeping record or explicit budget amount for option a cost. Use the stated period and exclude amounts already counted in another field. Zero means intentionally excluded/not incurred, not unknown.
    • Option B cost (selected currency): Charging, battery replacement and upkeep cash in this year; no duplicate reserve deposit.

Use the result well

Compare supplied purchase life battery fuel and maintenance scenarios.

Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required.
