Review the unit printed in each label. Changing this selector does not convert entries; Load example gives a matching converted example.

Item length along belt plus gap, not just the gap.

Actual non-slipping linear travel speed.

Distance traveled by an item on the belt.

Whole number of equivalent lanes.

Fraction of possible positions actually filled; greater than zero through 100.

Good items require a separate yield allowance if applicable.

How this calculation works

Conveyor throughput = speed / pitch × lanes × occupancy; takt = net available time / good-unit demand; Cp = (USL − LSL)/(6 × within-process sigma).

What information do I need?

Only fields for your selected method are required. Use consistent units and scope. Changing an entry method or unit system does not convert the numbers already entered. Previously calculated results are cleared when inputs change.

Unit system
Review the unit printed in each label. Changing this selector does not convert entries; Load example gives a matching converted example.
Item center-to-center pitch (in / mm)
Item length along belt plus gap, not just the gap.
Belt speed (ft/min / m/min)
Actual non-slipping linear travel speed.
Travel distance (ft / m)
Distance traveled by an item on the belt.
Parallel lanes
Whole number of equivalent lanes.
Occupied pitch positions (%)
Fraction of possible positions actually filled; greater than zero through 100.
Target throughput (items/min)
Good items require a separate yield allowance if applicable.
Net production minutes per period
Available operating time for EACH parallel station after planned losses.
Good-unit demand in the same period
Demand is good finished units; rejects are handled through yield below.
Cycle time per unit per station (seconds)
One independent station completes the entire unit. Not a sum of series-station times.
Identical parallel stations
Whole stations running independently during the entered time.
Good output share (%)
Apply reject loss once. Do not also bake the same reject rate into cycle time.
Machining operation
Feeds and depths must come from verified tooling and setup data.
Actual feed travel rate (in/min / mm/min)
Use the existing machining speeds-and-feeds calculator to derive this from RPM and feed per tooth/revolution if needed.
Feed travel including approach (in / mm)
No rapid moves, tool changes, retracts or dwell included.
Identical cutting passes
Whole passes, each with the stated travel and cut geometry.
Radial engagement width (in / mm)
Width of material removed per milling pass.
Cut depth (in / mm)
Milling: axial depth. Turning: radial reduction per pass.
Stock / drilled diameter (in / mm)
Drilling: full hole diameter. Turning: outside diameter before EACH modeled pass.
Variation input method
Overall sample variation is not silently labeled within-process capability.
Lower specification limit
Same physical measurement units as mean, sigma or raw observations.
Upper specification limit
Upper must exceed lower. These are specifications, not control limits.
Established process mean
Mean from a representative, evaluated process.
Established within-process standard deviation
Use a justified within-process estimate from subgroup/SPC analysis, not an arbitrary standard deviation.
Observed measurements
2–1,000 values, separated by commas or spaces. Commas separate values, not thousands.

Worked example

This example uses the initial method shown in the selector. Load an example in the form to try it.

Example inputs
  • What would you like to calculate?: conveyor
  • Unit system: us
  • Item center-to-center pitch (in / mm): 12
  • Belt speed (ft/min / m/min): 30
  • Travel distance (ft / m): 60
  • Parallel lanes: 1
  • Occupied pitch positions (%): 80
  • Target throughput (items/min): 30

Example answer: Ideal occupied throughput = 24 items/min

Use the result well

Pitch is item length along travel plus spacing; enter center-to-center pitch, not the empty gap alone. Speed and travel use feet or metres; pitch uses inches or millimetres. Steady non-slipping transport, uniform spacing and occupancy. Loading, unloading, accumulation and downstream bottlenecks can reduce throughput.

Use actual material, equipment and operating specifications. This is a stated-model calculation, not approval of a part, machine, lifting arrangement or structure. Verify units and assumptions before use.

Review the limits shown with each result. Browser arithmetic has finite precision; small differences may reflect rounding. Print or download important results before closing the tab.
