Pool service
Pool volume refill cost and turnover time
Estimate a simple pool volume, selected refill expense and arithmetic circulation time from a supplied actual flow.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
volume = selected surface area × supplied mean water depth; refill cost = refill gallons × price; circulation hours = volume/flow
Average depth must represent actual water geometry; simple mean of shallow and deep ends is only valid for suitable shapes. Use measured volume for irregular pools. Circulation time does not certify mixing, turnover compliance or sanitation, and no flow target, chemical dose or safe drain/refill procedure is prescribed. Use your own records for the same scope and period. Example figures are illustrative, not industry benchmarks. Results exclude income taxes and any cost you have not entered. Check the result before pricing work or committing resources.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Pool volume entry method: Choose the entry method matching the information you have. Only its active inputs are required.
- Water-surface length (ft): Use measured dimensions or quantities and select their actual units. Do not mix dry and wet weight or capacity and actual consumption. Used with: Rectangular footprint and mean depth.
- Water-surface width (ft): Use measured dimensions or quantities and select their actual units. Do not mix dry and wet weight or capacity and actual consumption. Used with: Rectangular footprint and mean depth.
- Circular water-surface diameter (ft): Use measured dimensions or quantities and select their actual units. Do not mix dry and wet weight or capacity and actual consumption. Used with: Circular footprint and mean depth.
- Measured average water depth (ft): Use measured dimensions or quantities and select their actual units. Do not mix dry and wet weight or capacity and actual consumption. Used with: rectangle, round.
- Known measured volume (US gal): Use measured dimensions or quantities and select their actual units. Do not mix dry and wet weight or capacity and actual consumption. Used with: Known measured pool volume.
- Share of volume you plan to replace (%): Enter a percentage from your records or an explicitly chosen scenario. No typical or recommended rate is supplied.
- Actual water and applicable sewer cost per1000USgallons (selected currency): Use a supplier quote, invoice, payroll record or allocated cost for the exact job or period named here. Include this amount only once.
- Measured circulation flow (US gal/min): Use measured dimensions or quantities and select their actual units. Do not mix dry and wet weight or capacity and actual consumption.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Estimated pool water volume is 19,812.90 US gal for the illustrative inputs below.

Use the result well
Estimate a simple pool volume, selected refill expense and arithmetic circulation time from a supplied actual flow. Inputs come from your own records and stated assumptions; no rates or legal limits are looked up.
Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
