Paper stock and shipment weight
Calculate paper weight from sheet dimensions, sheet count and supplier basis weight in grams per square meter.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
paper kg = sheet area(m²) × sheet count × gsm/1000; shipping weight = paper + packaging
Gsm is grams per square meter, not U.S.paper basis pounds. Use actual trimmed or untrimmed sheet dimensions matching the stock. Linear shipping budget does not apply carrier tiers, dimensional weight, minimum bills or live carrier prices. Use your own records for the same scope and period. Example figures are illustrative, not industry benchmarks. Results exclude income taxes and any cost you have not entered. Check the result before pricing work or committing resources.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Actual sheet length (in): Use measured dimensions or quantities and select their actual units. Do not mix dry and wet weight or capacity and actual consumption.
- Actual sheet width (in): Use measured dimensions or quantities and select their actual units. Do not mix dry and wet weight or capacity and actual consumption.
- Sheets in shipment (sheets): Use the matching measured quantity, time log, schedule or clearly stated estimate. Zero means intentionally none; an unknown amount is not zero.
- Supplier paper grammage (g/m²): Use the matching measured quantity, time log, schedule or clearly stated estimate. Zero means intentionally none; an unknown amount is not zero.
- Packaging weight (lb): Use measured dimensions or quantities and select their actual units. Do not mix dry and wet weight or capacity and actual consumption.
- Supplied fixed shipping charge (selected currency): Use a supplier quote, invoice, payroll record or allocated cost for the exact job or period named here. Include this amount only once.
- Supplied additional shipping charge per pound (selected currency): Use a supplier quote, invoice, payroll record or allocated cost for the exact job or period named here. Include this amount only once.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Total shipment weight is 13.20 lb for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs
- Actual sheet length: 11.692913385827 in
- Actual sheet width: 8.267716535433 in
- Sheets in shipment: 1,000 sheets
- Supplier paper grammage: 80.00 g/m²
- Packaging weight: 2.204622621849 lb
- Supplied fixed shipping charge: $5.00
- Supplied additional shipping charge per pound: $0.50
- Total shipment weight
- 13.20 lb
- Paper weight before packaging
- 4.99 kg
- Paper weight before packaging in pounds
- 11.00 lb
- Shipping budget at entered linear rate
- $11.60

Use the result well
Calculate paper weight from sheet dimensions, sheet count and supplier basis weight in grams per square meter. Inputs come from your own records and stated assumptions; no rates or legal limits are looked up.
Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
