Your inputs

Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.

How this calculation works

available travel budget=price-onsite costs-required contribution; time=budget/combined hourly travel cost.

Time and distance include all travel allocated to the visit, including return where applicable. Travel cost includes the whole crew plus vehicle. Constant speed is an assumption, not a route forecast.

What information do I need?

Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.

Input definitions and where to find them
  • Visit selling price (selected currency): Matching invoice, quote, statement, bookkeeping record or explicit budget amount for visit selling price. Use the stated period and exclude amounts already counted in another field. Zero means intentionally excluded/not incurred, not unknown.
  • On-site labor equipment and other cost (selected currency): Matching invoice, quote, statement, bookkeeping record or explicit budget amount for on-site labor equipment and other cost. Use the stated period and exclude amounts already counted in another field. Zero means intentionally excluded/not incurred, not unknown.
  • Required contribution after travel (selected currency): Use matching records or a clearly identified owner assumption for required contribution after travel, in the displayed unit and the stated row/period scope.
  • Combined crew and vehicle travel cost (currency/hour): WHOLE crew labor plus vehicle cost per ELAPSED travel hour, not vehicle cost/mile.
  • Assumed average travel speed (mph): Observed/assumed average allocated travel speed, not maximum road speed.

Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.

Worked example

Example amounts use US dollars (USD).

Example answer: Available travel budget is $40.00 for the illustrative inputs below.

Example inputs
  • Visit selling price: $150.00
  • On-site labor equipment and other cost: $80.00
  • Required contribution after travel: $30.00
  • Combined crew and vehicle travel cost: 40.00 currency/hour
  • Assumed average travel speed: 24.854847689493 mph
Available travel budget
$40.00
Maximum allocated total travel time
1.00 hours
Maximum allocated total travel distance
40.00 km

These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.

Use the result well

Find travel time or distance affordable after on-site costs and required contribution.

Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
