Delivery drivers
Delivery wait time cost
Separate actual waiting expense from the value of earning capacity that might have been used elsewhere.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
opportunity value = waiting minutes / 60 × entered alternative hourly net; actual cost is entered separately
Use the amount shown to the driver; it may already include tips or platform deductions. Add only amounts not already included. Include pickup, delivery, waiting and allocated unpaid return travel. Results are before income taxes and describe the supplied scenario, not promised platform earnings. Opportunity value is not a lost wage, guaranteed available order or amount a platform owes. If no alternative earning opportunity exists, enter zero for that hourly assumption. Actual waiting expense is supplied rather than inferred from engine idling.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Unpaid waiting minutes (minutes): Wait log, chosen timevalue and measured idleexpense. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Your assumed alternative hourly net earnings (selected currency): Wait log, chosen timevalue and measured idleexpense. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Actual additional fuel parking and other waiting expenses (selected currency): Wait log, chosen timevalue and measured idleexpense. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Assumed earning-capacity opportunity value is $10.00 for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs
- Unpaid waiting minutes: 30.00 minutes
- Your assumed alternative hourly net earnings: $20.00
- Actual additional fuel parking and other waiting expenses: $1.00
- Assumed earning-capacity opportunity value
- $10.00
- Actual additional waiting cash expense
- $1.00
- Combined economic waiting burden
- $11.00
These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.
Use the result well
Separate forgone time value from cash expense.
Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
