Time & work hours
Timesheet hours
Add shift hours from clock-in and clock-out readings, overnight flags and explicitly unpaid breaks, with an optional straight-rate amount.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
shift minutes = end - start + overnight days × 1440 - supplied unpaid break; total hours = sum(shift minutes) / 60
Only subtract breaks already established as unpaid for the relevant circumstances; do not subtract paid short breaks or work performed during a meal. Enter actual work intervals and avoid overlaps. Clock readings assume the same fixed time offset with no daylight-saving transition. This tool adds supplied time and does not decide labor-law compliance, overtime eligibility or compensable activities.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Shifts — enter each work interval once: Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for shifts — enter each work interval once. Unknown is not the same as zero.
- Shift date or label: Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for shift date or label. Unknown is not the same as zero.
- Clock in (24-hour HH:MM): Enter a 24-hour clock time as HH:MM, for example 08:30, 13:15 or 23:45. Midnight is 00:00.
- Clock out (24-hour HH:MM): Enter a 24-hour clock time as HH:MM, for example 08:30, 13:15 or 23:45. Midnight is 00:00.
- Clock out day: Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for clock out day. Unknown is not the same as zero.
- Unpaid break minutes only (minutes): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for unpaid break minutes only. Unknown is not the same as zero.
- Optional straight hourly rate (0 to omit) (selected currency): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for optional straight hourly rate (0 to omit). Unknown is not the same as zero.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Total recorded work hours is 15.000000 hours for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs
- Shifts — enter each work interval once
- Shift date or label: Monday
- Clock in (24-hour HH:MM): 09:00
- Clock out (24-hour HH:MM): 17:00
- Clock out day: Same day
- Unpaid break minutes only: 30.00 minutes
- Shift date or label: Tuesday
- Clock in (24-hour HH:MM): 09:00
- Clock out (24-hour HH:MM): 17:00
- Clock out day: Same day
- Unpaid break minutes only: 30.00 minutes
- Optional straight hourly rate (0 to omit): $0.00
- Total recorded work hours
- 15.000000 hours
- Total hours and minutes
- 15 h 0 min
- Straight-rate amount
- No hourly rate entered
- No automatic time rounding, overtime, holiday premiums, tax or payroll deductions. A straight-rate amount is not a certified payroll or a determination of wages legally owed.
These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.
Use the result well
Add shift hours from clock-in and clock-out readings, overnight flags and explicitly unpaid breaks, with an optional straight-rate amount.
Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
