How this calculation works

subtotal = unit price × quantity × (1 - first discount) × (1 - second discount) - order coupon

Discounts are sequential, not added together. Coupon is applied once to the whole order after percentage discounts. Subtotal is rounded to cents at the end; actual store line-item rounding can differ. Tax, shipping and coupon eligibility are not inferred.

What information do I need?

Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.

Input definitions and where to find them
  • Original price per item (selected currency): Use matching records or a clearly stated assumption for the indicated period. Prefilled figures are illustrative. An unknown value is not zero.
  • Number of items (items): Use matching records or a clearly stated assumption for the indicated period. Prefilled figures are illustrative. An unknown value is not zero.
  • First discount (%): Use matching records or a clearly stated assumption for the indicated period. Prefilled figures are illustrative. An unknown value is not zero.
  • Additional sequential discount (%): Use matching records or a clearly stated assumption for the indicated period. Prefilled figures are illustrative. An unknown value is not zero.
  • Separate coupon for entire order (selected currency): Use matching records or a clearly stated assumption for the indicated period. Prefilled figures are illustrative. An unknown value is not zero.

Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.

Use the result well

Apply two sequential discounts and a separate order coupon to a quantity of identical items.

Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
