Restaurant table turnover
Measure completed table-service cycles and relate observed party spending to the same service period.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
table turns = completed table parties / available tables; sales = completed parties × average spend per party
Count parties that completed a table-service cycle. Guests divided by seats is seat turnover, a different metric. Shared tables, joined tables and parties spanning the period require a consistent counting convention. Observed spending is not a demand forecast.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Completed seated parties in service period (parties): Seating/POS log, available table/seat count, service interval. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Tables available during that period (tables): Seating/POS log, available table/seat count, service interval. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Average net spending per party (selected currency): Seating/POS log, available table/seat count, service interval. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Service-period length (hours): Seating/POS log, available table/seat count, service interval. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Completed table turns in service period is 3.00 turns/table for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs

- Tables available during that period: 20 tables
- Average net spending per party: $50.00
- Service-period length: 4.00 hours
- Completed table turns in service period
- 3.00 turns/table
- Completed table turns per service hour
- 0.75 turns/table-hour
- Sales from entered average party spending
- $3,000.00
These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.
Use the result well
Compare dining-room capacity usage.
Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
