Electrical
Battery storage tariff arbitrage economics
Compare supplied usable capacity efficiency and tariff periods.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
daily savings=delivered kWh*peak price-charge kWh*offpeak price.
At most one daily cycle, no export, demand-charge or backup value. Capacity means usable energy delivered to load. Efficiency, tariff windows and degradation allowance are supplied. No battery sizing or electrical design.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Usable energy delivered per daily cycle (kWh/cycle): Usable kWh delivered to load, not gross/nameplate capacity.
- Round-trip energy efficiency (%): Delivered output kWh ÷ purchased charging kWh ×100 on comparable boundary.
- Avoided peak price per delivered kWh (selected currency): Measured REAL electrical input for the specified operating state, or clearly labeled compatible rated estimate; no general volts×amps shortcut.
- Charging price per input kWh (selected currency): Measured REAL electrical input for the specified operating state, or clearly labeled compatible rated estimate; no general volts×amps shortcut.
- Daily cycles operated per year (cycles/year): Actual count from job, sales, production or service records for daily cycles operated per year. Future counts are explicit assumptions; do not infer demand.
- Annual additional upkeep and degradation allowance (selected currency): Use matching records or a clearly identified owner assumption for annual additional upkeep and degradation allowance, in the displayed unit and the stated row/period scope.
- Installed battery investment (selected currency): Matching invoice, quote, statement, bookkeeping record or explicit budget amount for installed battery investment. Use the stated period and exclude amounts already counted in another field. Zero means intentionally excluded/not incurred, not unknown.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Purchased charging energy per cycle is 11.11 kWh for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs

- Daily cycles operated per year: 300 cycles/year
- Annual additional upkeep and degradation allowance: $100.00
- Installed battery investment: $5,000.00
- Purchased charging energy per cycle
- 11.11 kWh
- Gross arbitrage savings per cycle
- $1.89
- Annual net modeled benefit
- $466.67
- Simple payback
- 10.71 years

Use the result well
Compare supplied usable capacity efficiency and tariff periods.
Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
