Electrical
Generator fuel operating cost
Budget measured generator fuel burn and running hours.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
fuel burn*hours*fuel price+hour-based maintenance.
Measured fuel burn at the supplied operating condition; no generator sizing, electrical design or emissions compliance. A manufacturer specification may be used as an explicit estimate only when fuel and load conditions match.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Fuel-use rate from your records or a matching specification (US gal/hour): Use recorded fuel consumed divided by matching engine hours, or a manufacturer figure for the same fuel and operating load. A specification-based result is an estimate, not measured actual use.
- Operating hours in period (hours): Run-hour meter/log during the cost period.
- Fuel price (currency/US gal): Matching invoice, quote, statement, bookkeeping record or explicit budget amount for fuel price. Use the stated period and exclude amounts already counted in another field. Zero means intentionally excluded/not incurred, not unknown.
- Maintenance cost per operating hour (selected currency): Actual chosen maintenance cost ÷ corresponding operating interval; zero explicitly excludes this expense.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Period generator operating cost is $950.00 for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs
- Fuel-use rate from your records or a matching specification: 1.320860261791 US gal/hour
- Operating hours in period: 100.00 hours
- Fuel price: 5.678117676000 currency/US gal
- Maintenance cost per operating hour: $2.00
- Period generator operating cost
- $950.00
- Fuel volume in period
- 500.00 L
These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.
Use the result well
Budget measured generator fuel burn and running hours.
Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
