Measured water leak cost
Turn collected water over measured time into volume and tariff cost.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
flow=measured volume/time; loss=flow*duration; cost=loss*rate.
Constant measured leak rate over duration. Tariff and collected volume normalize separately to compatible volume units. US and imperial gallons are distinct. No pipe sizing.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Collected leak volume (US gal): Container-measured collected leak volume in selected US/imperial/metric unit.
- Collection time (minutes): Timed collection duration; seconds can be divided by60.
- Leak duration (days): Actual time from logs/calendar/statement, or an explicitly labeled future schedule. Keep the period in leak duration consistent with all matching costs/outputs.
- Combined water and sewer price (currency/1,000 US gal): Avoidable volumetric water/sewer tariff, excluding fixed/nonavoidable charges.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Measured leak flow is 2.00 L/min for the illustrative inputs below.
Example inputs
- Collected leak volume: 0.528344104716 US gal
- Collection time: 1.00 minutes
- Leak duration: 30.00 days
- Combined water and sewer price: 18.927058920000 currency/1,000 US gal
- Measured leak flow
- 2.00 L/min
- Lost volume
- 86.40 m³
- Leak cost
- $432.00
These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.
Use the result well
Turn collected water over measured time into volume and tariff cost.
Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
