Construction business
Construction change scope cost impact
Price the cost effect of entered added work, removed-work credits and extra time-related overhead.
Your inputs
Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.
How this calculation works
net change cost = added direct cost - removed-work cost credit + extra days × daily overhead; target selling adjustment = net change cost / (1 - target margin)
For residential or commercial company costing. Use supplied job records, measured labor and quoted total expenses. No material takeoff, shopping list, supplier sourcing, code interpretation, engineering design or legal entitlement is provided. A negative result represents a modeled cost credit. This does not establish a legal change order, entitlement to payment, allowable markups, delay damages or owner approval. Costs and overhead must not be duplicated in the original and changed scope.
What information do I need?
Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.
Input definitions and where to find them
- Additional direct costs from supplied scope estimates: Entered scope differences, credits and added elapsed days. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Cost description: Entered scope differences, credits and added elapsed days. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Cost amount (selected currency): Entered scope differences, credits and added elapsed days. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Cost of removed work credited out of original scope (selected currency): Entered scope differences, credits and added elapsed days. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Additional elapsed overhead days caused by change (days): Entered scope differences, credits and added elapsed days. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Time-related overhead per extra day (selected currency): Entered scope differences, credits and added elapsed days. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
- Target gross margin (%): Entered scope differences, credits and added elapsed days. Owner records or explicit assumption; no account connection or maintained rate tables required.
Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.
Worked example
Example amounts use US dollars (USD).
Example answer: Target selling-price adjustment at entered margin is $2,000.00 for the illustrative inputs below.

- Additional elapsed overhead days caused by change: 2.00 days
- Time-related overhead per extra day: $150.00
- Target gross margin: 20.00 %
- Target selling-price adjustment at entered margin
- $2,000.00
- Net added or credited job cost
- $1,600.00
These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.
Use the result well

Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
