Your inputs

Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.

How this calculation works

leak flow*specific kW per flow*hours*tariff.

Flow and specific power must use the same measured air reference conditions. This proportional energy estimate does not guarantee realizable bill savings under compressor controls.

What information do I need?

Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.

Input definitions and where to find them
  • Measured leak flow (ft³/min): Measured leak airflow at specified air reference conditions; not inferred from pipe size.
  • Measured compressor specific input (kW per (ft³/min)): Measured compressor ELECTRICAL kW ÷ delivered airflow at matching conditions and units.
  • Period leak duration (hours): Actual time from logs/calendar/statement, or an explicitly labeled future schedule. Keep the period in period leak duration consistent with all matching costs/outputs.
  • Electricity price per kWh (selected currency): Matching energy/volumetric tariff or bill component for electricity price per kwh, excluding fixed charges or other charges not modeled.

Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.

Worked example

Example amounts use US dollars (USD).

Example answer: Attributed compressor input is 6.00 kW for the illustrative inputs below.

Example inputs
  • Measured leak flow: 35.314666721489 ft³/min
  • Measured compressor specific input: 0.169901079552 kW per (ft³/min)
  • Period leak duration: 4,000.00 hours
  • Electricity price per kWh: $0.15
Attributed compressor input
6.00 kW
Period attributed energy
24,000.00 kWh
Period attributed leak energy cost
$3,600.00

These illustrative values are not recommended rates or industry averages. Replace every example input with your own figures.

Use the result well

Price measured leakage using measured compressor specific power. Some modes require specialist measurements or a qualified equipment/energy estimate. If you do not have those inputs, use a directly measured alternative where offered; do not guess from unrelated bills or equipment ratings.

Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
