Your inputs

Complete the fields for your selected method. Zero means intentionally zero, not unknown. Currency selection labels amounts; it does not convert exchange rates.

How this calculation works

effective APY = (1 + nominal rate / periods) ^ periods - 1; maturity = deposit × (1 + APY) ^ (term days / 365)

Use the bank quote and actual deposit term, not a market-average rate. APY already includes compounding: do not compound an APY again using a nominal-rate formula. Fractional-term estimates from an annual APY are a model, not a bank payout quote, especially when interest is paid out rather than retained. No investment recommendation or deposit-insurance eligibility determination is made.

What information do I need?

Use records for the same job, equipment or accounting period. Only the fields for your selected entry method are required. An unknown amount is not zero.

Input definitions and where to find them
  • Initial CD deposit (selected currency): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for initial cd deposit. Unknown is not the same as zero.
  • Which rate is on your bank quote?: Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for which rate is on your bank quote?. Unknown is not the same as zero.
  • Quoted APY (%): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for quoted apy. Unknown is not the same as zero. Used with: Annual percentage yield (APY).
  • Quoted nominal annual interest rate (%): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for quoted nominal annual interest rate. Unknown is not the same as zero. Used with: Nominal annual interest rate and compounding.
  • Compounding frequency for the nominal interest rate: Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for compounding frequency for the nominal interest rate. Unknown is not the same as zero. Used with: Nominal annual interest rate and compounding.
  • Term length in days (days): Use matching records or an explicitly identified assumption for term length in days. Unknown is not the same as zero.

Use the Where to find this value controls beside the inputs for available work-it-out helpers. Estimates remain your assumptions; a helper does not verify the source figures.

Worked example

Example amounts use US dollars (USD).

Example answer: Estimated maturity value is $10,400.00 for the illustrative inputs below.

Example inputs
  • Initial CD deposit: $10,000.00
  • Which rate is on your bank quote?: Annual percentage yield (APY)
  • Quoted APY: 4.00 %
  • Term length in days: 365 days

  • Fixed rate, interest retained and reinvested, no withdrawals or added deposits. Uses a 365-day fractional-year growth model. Actual bank day-count, crediting and rounding may differ. Taxes, fees, early-withdrawal penalties and renewal terms are excluded.

Use the result well

Estimate certificate-of-deposit maturity value and interest from a supplied APY or nominal interest rate, deposit and term.

Keep inputs on the same scope and time basis. Calculations retain precision internally; displayed values generally round to two decimal places, with extra precision for very small values and whole-unit rounding where required. Economic comparisons describe your supplied assumptions and do not guarantee future results.
